How to change the serial (RS-232) port assignments in Windows

Please note, these steps may vary depending on the version of Windows installed.

 

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop

  1. Select the “Hardware” tab and press the “Device Manager” button.

  1. Expand the “Ports (COM & LPT)” tree node, select the desired com port the change, right-click and select “Properties”.

  1. Select the “Port Settings” tab and press the “Advanced” button.

  1. Here you can select any desired un-used com port number to re-assign the existing port to.
